A TWO-YEAR-OLD girl was taken to hospital with a broken leg after a lorry crashed into her in a hit and run.

The crash occurred in Middle Street, Brighton, shortly after 1pm on Friday but police issued an appeal for witnesses this morning.

A purple or maroon coloured lorry failed to stop and officers are now looking for the driver.

The Eastbourne girl was on the pavement with her mother when the lorry turned off the A259 Kings Road and into Middle Street, mounting the kerb.

She was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, for treatment.

PC Christina Lane, of the roads policing unit, Haywards Heath, said: "I understand several people saw what happened and shouted for the lorry to stop.

"But it did not do so, and witnesses are now being sought to identify the vehicle involved."

Anyone with information should call 101 or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting 1075 of June 12.
