Two men posing as police officers stopped a car and searched it.
The mysterious incident happened at about midday on Thursday, June 11, when a Nissan Pulsa driven by a 49-year-old local man was stopped by a dark blue Skoda Octavia in Catelupe Road, Bexhill.
The Skoda had blue lights in its front grille and dashboard and was masquerading as an unmarked police vehicle.
Two men wearing purported police uniforms, including what appeared to be stab-proof vests and radios, searched the Nissan and left the scene.
The men were both white, about 5'10", clean shaven and of medium build. One was in his mid-thirties and the other one was in his late thirties to early forties.
Detective Inspector Rob Morland said' "We have made extensive enquiries and it is clear that these men were not police officers. The motive for their actions is not known.
