A STREAKER was fined after running onto a cricket pitch.
The 28-year-old from Uckfield jumped barriers from the stands at the Sussex County Cricket Club in Hove on Friday and ran naked onto the pitch during the T20 Sussex Sharks v Kent Spitfires match.
He was rugby tackled by a steward but slipped away before crashing into the stumps, as unimpressed players and umpires looked on.
When the fan was detained, a second man was seen topless in the crowd. It is believed he removed his clothing to cover the man up and not to also attempt a streak himself.
A club spokesman said the match was not disrupted for long and it was the first streaker in at least five years at the county ground.
He added: “There was a mix of amusement and annoyance from the crowds. We do not condone going onto the pitch while play is going on.”
A police spokesman said: “At 9.20pm on Friday we were called to the county cricket ground where stewards had detained a man who had run naked across the ground.
"The 28-year old man from Uckfield admitted responsibility and police issued the man with a fixed penalty notice for £90 at the ground, for the offence of disorderly behaviour likely to cause alarm or distress, contrary to Section 5 of the Public Order Act.”
