IT’S not often England win a world cup, but this bunch have managed it three years in a row.

More than 400 dancers from England aged five to 18 made their way to Bucharest in Romania to take part in Dance World Cup 2015, and did enough to lift the trophy for the third consecutive year.

The English Team, which included a host of members from Sussex, won 49 gold medals, 46 silver medals and 46 bronze medals to be awarded with the Dance World Cup 2015 after securing the most points of the countries taking part.

Dancers from Brighton College, Zoe Pennington Dance School in Eastbourne and Shining Stars dance school in Eastbourne helped Team England win the cup It is the largest international dance competition of its kind and attracts 3,000 dancers from across the world.

This year, 38 countries including Malaysia, South Africa, Spain, Germany, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Moldova, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan and Wales took part, but none of them could topple the Team England.

Team England boasts some of the best dancers in the country in the team, including Scarlet Roche who is currently playing the role of Baby June in Gypsy, alongside Imelda Staunton in the West End.

Scarlet has also played the leading role Matilda and Verruca Salt in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory – three West End shows at the age of 12 years old.

Owen Pennington from Zoe Pennington Dance School was an integral part of the team and is currently in Gypsy in the West End too.

Brighton College dancer James Duprey excelled in the boys junior modern solo section and Lily Overton from Eastbourne winning Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals at Dance World Cup 2015 The squad also includes Redmond Rance, a former Billy Elliot in the West End show who is now in CBBC drama Hetty Feather.

They have former Billy Elliot ballet girls Talia Duff and Bryony Way as well as three of the dancers from the current Dance Mums UK series Chloe Fenton, Chloe Greenwood and Molly Thorpe-Franklin plus dancers from Freeman Dance School who featured in the film “Nativity 3”.

Team England manager Jo Arnett said: “The dancers raised the money themselves to pay for the week-long trip to Romania undertaking many fundraising events including bag packing, putting on a show, cake sales and sponsored events such as Ride to Romania - clocking up the miles from England to Romania on their bikes.

“They have trained so hard to get to Romania and were constantly in the rehearsal studios when they got to the competition - they are dedicated, disciplined dancers.

“Team England dancers are the world champions of the world.”
