Having read various articles about tuk-tuks and how unsafe they could be, it was not missed that some of these reports had been from taxi drivers.

Before putting pen to paper, these same taxi drivers should take a long hard look at their own members before belittling other groups.

The driving standards of some of the city's taxi drivers is becoming increasingly appalling.

My wife has often complained to me about how she feels intimidated and frightened by some of the things they do. She works in the city centre and drives home between midnight and three in the morning.

Don't get me wrong, there are some very good taxi drivers but the bad ones are more noticeable in their marked vehicles when they display a poor standard of driving.

Sadly, Brighton and Hove City Council tells me to make a complaint you need the Hackney plate number of the vehicles concerned, which is fine if you can see it.

What is surprising is that taxi drivers only undertake a knowledge test and a police check. Would it not be wise to check the standard of driving periodically? After all, LGV, PCV and other special driving groups have to undertake additional training and driving tests.

Driving instructors and examiners are tested every four years.

We know taxi drivers have a difficult job to do but intimidating motorists and putting lives in danger for the cost of a fare is not good practice. So before whingeing and moaning about a little competition, please get your own house in order first.
