THE oldest and largest taxi company in the city has officially opened its revamped call centre, bringing all its operations under one roof for the first time.
Taxi association Streamline given its headquarters on Clifton Hill, Brighton a high-tech makeover.
Now boasting 360 vehicles and 800 drivers, the company started out as a co-operative in 1936, founded by drivers competing against private hire companies.
Crime author Peter James was on hand for the grand opening on Wednesday.
Chairman Dave Smith said: “We’ve gone from from a very small cramped office to something cathedral-like. It’s a lovely airy building to work in after an 11-month renovation.”
Brighton mayor Linda Hyde also attended the launch, as well as Martlets fundraiser Elizabeth Baxter, who accepted a cheque of £3,500 raised by Streamline.
