A DRIVER smashed into a restaurant as he tried to pull into a disabled bay parking space.

The Argus:

The incident at 2.30pm yesterday in Horsham gathered a massive crowd after a Jaguar ploughed into Cook food shop in Sterling Buildings near South Street.

The Argus:

Samantha, an assistant manager at the shop who was there at the time of the crash, said: “I think it was an older gentleman who was pulling into a disabled parking bay and his foot must’ve slipped.

“We didn’t quite realise what was going on, we heard a woman scream and then realised there was a car almost in the shop.

“Thankfully nobody was injured and the only damage was to the outside of the shop.

“We were quite quiet, thank God, and the town wasn’t busy, but it soon drew a crowd.”

The Argus:

Cook is waiting for the go-ahead to fix the front window.

The Argus:

The shop put a notice out on its website saying: “Someone has crashed into the front of our Horsham shop - not a frozen food ram raid, we’re assured by the police.

“Everyone is OK, including the driver, but the shop is going to be shut for a few days.”
