AN EIGHT-year-old girl walked 34 miles to raise money for the hospital that treated her cousin.

Kitty Blue Hill decided to walk from her home in Eastbourne to her Nanny's house in Brighton to raise money for Great Ormond Street hospital which supported her cousin Finlay after he was diagnosed with a rare brain malformation.

Kitty and her dad Robin completed the arduous journey across the South Downs over two days. Despite a "Biblical flood" of rain they completed 13 and a half miles last Friday, then completed another 19 and a half miles on Saturday.

Kitty said: "Finlay had great treatment at Great Ormond Street and it's like saying thank you for all their work.

"My dad said that when he was about 18 he used to walk from Brighton to Eastbourne so I said I wanted to do it.

"I did a practice walk from Eastbourne to Alfriston - that was easy.

"On the big walk it got a bit tiring towards the end but it wasn't too bad. When we were planning it was raining but it was alright in the end."

Kitty has so far raised £650 towards the GOSH - which not only saved Finlay's life after he was diagnosed with Pachygyria shortly after his birth in December 2013 but also continue to support to him and his parents, Kali and Martin.

Kitty's mum Kerry said: "Kitty was fully aware that 34 miles was a long way for an eight year old but she's a feisty and determined child and achieved it with a smile on her face.

"People have been incredibly supportive and generous. Kitty and her dad met an old couple during their walk who were impressed with her spirit and sponsored her.

People have been impressed that an eight year old wants to do something for charity."
