THESE curious dolphins gave a group of wakeboarders an unexpected surprise when they came up to say hello.

The pod frolicked in the water off the coast of Saltdean on Sunday afternoon - just metres from the group of watersports fanatics.

Cleo Davis was one of the group that had come down from London for the day.

She said at their peak there were 30 dolphins swimming around them.

The 31-year-old added: “We were out wakeboarding when my friend had a call from someone to say dolphins had been spotted.

“They were diving around for about an hour and coming right towards us. It was amazing.

“When we stopped the boat they disappeared but they were acknowledging us. The best thing was when one flipped in the air like it was showing off – like it wanted us to see it.”

Later in the day they returned to sea in order to tow another boat back to shore.

As they did, a group of dolphins followed them.

Ms Davis said: “We had to go rescue a boat and as we were taking them back the dolphins returned. They may not have been the same ones, but it was like they were saying goodbye - it really was the best thing ever.”

Earlier in the day readers sent in pictures of the dolphins swimming near the West Pier.
