THIS is the moment a £220,000 Ferrari hire car was written off when it crashed into a house and ended up under a taxi.

It is understood the driver had rented the 202mph supercar from a Shoreham-based care hire company for a family wedding when he smashed into the side of the terraced home on Sunday night.

Miraculously nobody was injured when the red and grey 458 Italia hit a low brick wall and wedged itself underneath a grey VW Passat taxi.

Luxury car hire firm Prestige Lifestyle said the motor belonged to them and had been totally written off - with just 4,600 miles on the clock.

Co-owner Jamie Ford, 26, from Shoreham, said: "When I saw what had happened I was absolutely devastated.

"They have done a really good job of crashing it and writing it off. It took three minutes for the insurance assessors to write it off.

"I just wish people had more respect for super cars. People need to realise that they are not invincible."

The accident - which also involved a Vauxhall Astra - happened at around 7pm in a residential street in Luton on Sunday.

Jamie said a 29-year-old man had hired the vehicle from their depot in Shoreham on Thursday and was due to returned it on Monday.

He said the driver paid a £5,000 deposit plus £850-a-day for the '64 plate motor, telling him it was to be used during a wedding.

He added: "We can deal with scratches and little dents, but this is absolutely gutting."

Bedfordshire Police said: "We were called at approximately 7pm on Sunday to reports of a three vehicle road traffic collision in which one car collided with a wall.

"The incident happened in Selbourne Road and involved a Ferrari, a VW Passat and a Vauxhall Astra."
