A DONATION system has been set up in the wake of Saturday's Shoreham air show disaster.

Sussex Community Foundation, on behalf of Adur District Council, Worthing Borough Council and West Sussex County Council has opened a fund for those who want to donate in support of those affected by the crash.

An online Just Giving page has already attracted nearly £6,000 since yesterday afternoon.

Officials had previously warned against people donating to other sites in case the money gets mishandled.

Neil Parkin, leader of Adur District Council, told The Argus yesterday that locals were already looking to set up fundraisers for the victims’ families, but advised against people rushing to help too soon before the full picture was clear.

He said: “Everyone expects answers and remedies but we don’t know exactly how many people are involved yet.”

The costs of managing this official appeal are being met by Adur District and Worthing Borough councils and West Sussex County Council.

The appeal is being managed by Sussex Community Foundation, a registered charity which manages funds and gives grants to communities in the county.

The charity has said it will manage all donations and ensure the funds reach those who need it the most.
