AN ELDERLY man who went missing after leaving food in the oven and his lights and television on at home is thought to have been found dead.

The family of Ronald Davey, 84, of Slinfold, and police officers grew increasingly concerned for his welfare after he was last seen on Sunday at 4pm leaving the Red Lyon pub on The Street in the village.

It is believed he never went back home and when his family visited on Tuesday at around 10pm because they had not heard from him and found lights and the television on with food in the oven.

Inspector Andy Sandford previously appealed for help to find Mr Davey, who was known to walk with a stick, have pneumonia and problems with his feet.

Yesterday a police spokesman said: "The body of a man, believed to be Ronald Davey was found on Wednesday near Park Road just off Hayes Lane, Slinfold. The death is not being treated as suspicious. The coroner has been informed."
