BOBBY Zamora is urging Seagulls fans to bring an extra £1 to their next match to support the club's charity work.

Brighton and Hove Albion face Cardiff City today and the superstar striker is urging supporters to donate just a quid to Albion in the Community (AitC).

In the last 12 months alone the charity engaged with more than 30,000 people throughout the county and they are now celebrating the 25th anniversary.

The striker, who wears the number 25 on the back of his strip, said: “When I was at Brighton before I was well aware of the excellent community work the club was doing but since I have returned I’ve been amazed at how much Albion in the Community has grown.

“Part of the reason I wanted to come back to Brighton was because I knew what a special club this is. Albion in the Community and its work is very much part of what makes Brighton special."

The charity started out in 1990 as a small department within the club and is now one of Sussex's most active charities.

Today's match is vital for the table-topping side and will also feature a celebration of AitC with a wheelchair football demonstration and a soccer school taking place outside the stadium as well as a blind football demonstration on the pitch at half time.

With more than 25,000 people expected at the game, the hope is that Seagulls fans can help raise £25,000 for AITC.

The team will also be sporting a special one-off charity strip.

The 34-year-old added: “I am hoping to get out and visit some of the charity’s projects and see first-hand the work the charity is doing.

“Seagulls fans are among the best in the country and I know they are proud of Albion in the Community. Hopefully they’ll continue to show the charity their support throughout the season and make it a 25th anniversary to remember.”
