TWO women are running in memory of a much loved chef in Brighton’s most colourful sporting event and there is still time to join them on Saturday.

Just a few places remain for the afternoon session of The Color (CORR) Run Brighton for this year with the morning wave now sold out.

The 5km paint-splattered run along Madeira Drive, first held in the city in 2013, will be held at 11am and 4pm on Saturday.

The partner and twin sister of a man who tragically died two years-ago of an undiagnosed brain tumour are to take part in the run in his memory.

Sophie Witham, a 27-year-old estate agent from Shoreham will compete in the run alongside Daniel Daughtery’s twin sister Bridie McMahon, 31 on Saturday.

Daniel, a talented chef, died after going to bed with a headache at his home in September 2013 just hours after finishing work in a busy restaurant kitchen aged 29.

Sophie said: “It has been devastating for all who knew Dan.

"By commemorating him and raising money for The Brain Tumour Charity we hope to help so many others and their families get the help and support they need.”

The Brain Tumour Charity leads the fight to defeat brain tumours by funding research, raising awareness of the symptoms and effects of brain tumours and providing support.

The 27-year-old said: “Daniel died unexpectedly and without symptoms, except for a headache of a brain tumour, what is known as meningioma of the brain stem.

“The cause of most brain tumours is still largely unknown, spreading awareness and raising money for this charity could save lives in the future.

Scans on Daniel, who was head chef at the Beach House restaurant in Shoreham, revealed he had an undetected tumour at the top of his spine.

Speaking ahead of the fun run in Daniel’s memory Sophie described how at times training had been difficult but to run in the memory of her late partner and gifted cook carried her through.

Sophie said: “We have never done a run before and are quite daunted by the prospect but it being a fun run and a heartfelt cause we’re very much looking forward to it.

“We started training earlier in the year and although there have been times when we were unable to, we have kept training to a steady rate.”

So far the pair have raised £385 worth of sponsorship but their target is to break the £500 mark.

Sophie said: “All the support and donations so far have been incredible.”
