HIS beard may be no match for that of Father Christmas, but lots of people are hoping to have new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn topping their Christmas tree this year.

The union loving, Trident hating 66-year-old is the latest political heavyweight to be tackled by Brighton knitter Katrina Stiff.

The 38-year-old, who has previously tackled the likes of Michael Gove and Nigel Farage, decided to knit Corbyn as a tree topper.

However, such has been the popularity of her latest design she is now struggling to keep up with orders.

She said: “I figured that even if no one else wanted one, he'd be perfect for my Christmas tree.

“I've had more than 85 orders so far, the public reaction has been incredible.

“I've been crocheting political likenesses for a couple of years but up until now they were all pincushions of less popular politicians.”

Complete with red tie, beige jacket and a pair of wire glasses, she said the Labour leader is the perfect accessory for anyone wanting to take a more “atheist socialist” approach to the season.

On her selection of Corbyn as a figure of peace for the festive season, she added: “He cares about and fights for all the issues which I think are actually important, putting human interests over big business.”

Miss Stiff is selling her creations through craft website Etsy, but fears she is unable to produce any more Corbyn toppers before the festive season.

She added: “I'm writing up the pattern to sell so that others can have a go if they're unable to order one. I will also be hopefully taking on an assistant to help me get more orders out in time for Christmas."

She has previously made crochet pin cushions of Conservative MPs such as Jeremy Hunt, Ian Duncan Smith and even the Prime Minister David Cameron.
