EIGHT budding performers hit their high notes as they recorded a charity single for Children In Need.

The singers, made up largely from the teenage Brighton and Worthing performing scene, have released a cover of Motown classic Ain’t No Mountain High Enough on iTunes for 79p.

The group, called Teen Aid, is made up of 15 to 19 year olds and was inspired by the Band Aid single.

Emma Finlay-Smith, who founded the group, said: "They are not part of a choir, they are all performers in their own rights - like Band Aid.

"They are a fantastic, talented lot and a pleasure to work with. The song is fantastic and we hope to raise lots of money for a fantastic cause."

Teen Aid is made up of Christelle Lamb, 15, from Worthing, Lily Armstrong, 16, from Portslade, Izzy Finlay-Smith, 16, from Hove, Lily Moore, 16, from Brighton, Daniel Walford, 15, from Hove, Ella Croucher, 19, from Brighton and Chloe Green, 17, and Liberty Cheverall, 16, both from Kent.

Miss Croucher said: "I was brought up with music, my parents are musicians. But I’ve never done anything like this before.

"I’ve learnt so much about the music industry whilst really helping other children that need it."

Her fellow singer Mr Walford, 15, said: "Emma watched some of my videos on YouTube and asked me to join the collaboration.

"It’s been such an eye opener, we’ve got to work with choreographers and vocal coaches whilst helping others at the same time.’’

The track, originally performed by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, was recorded and produced at Audio Beach Studios in Lansdowne Mews, Hove.

The accompanying music video was filmed at Bird Studios, New England Street, Brighton and has already had more than 1,700 YouTube views since it was released on October 18.

The group called in ten dancers from the Isle of Wight for the video, after they auditioned more than 60.

Ms Finlay-Smith formed the group last year with a cover of the Take That classic Shine, which raised £2,300. They appeared on the 2014 Children In Need appeal show, and the group’s picture was hung in the Queen Vic pub in a special episode of Eastenders.

Mrs Finlay-Smith is now hoping to take the group further. She said: "I was delighted with the success of last year’s project so we decided to do it all over again this year.

"The difference this year is we have teen dancers. They had a special performance at the The Alexandra Pub in Worthing, and they were fantastic."

The singers set up a just giving internet donation page with a target of raising £1,000. As of last night, they had already surpassed the £2,100 mark with the money from the iTunes sales yet to come in.
