A HOMEOWNER whose house was featured in the John Lewis Christmas advert says he will not shop there again after Scrooges failed to honour a promise of payment for filming his home.

Film crews using a large crane spent a day filming at Terry Amos’s home in Swanborough Drive in Whitehawk in August, and told him he would receive £500 if the footage was used.

He said: “They said they were going to the back garden of our house and the one next door, but they changed their minds but they scanned along our house and our neighbours’ house.

“They were there until late at night with a big cherry picker, it was a very long day.

“At first they said there would be a £500 fee, then when they said they weren’t using our house they said we would get a bottle of wine but we’ve yet to see it.

“It’s not really fair is it – on the radio this morning I heard it cost them £7 million to make, I’m not all that happy not to get a slice of that but I don’t like to make a fuss.

“This will make me less likely to shop there.”

Mr Amos said he recognised his roof when he saw the advert.

The television commercial is released to much hype each year and this time Whitehawk was seen around the country again and again in the department store’s big publicity piece.

It is described by John Lewis as telling the story of a “magical and unexpected connection between a little girl and a man who lives on the moon”.

John Lewis has partnered with Age UK to drive awareness and support for some of the million older people who can go for a month without speaking to anyone, and will be supporting the charity through marketing schemes and sales of selected Christmas merchandise.

A spokeswoman for John Lewis said: “We are extremely grateful for the cooperation of residents whilst we were filming.

“Thank you for bringing Mr Amos’ feedback to our attention. We would like to discuss this further with him if he would like to get in contact with us directly.”
