A BOYS' football team hope to taste victory wearing shirts funded by an Italian pizza restaurant.

In the same vein as Brighton and Hove Albion's Donatello restaurant sponsor of the late 1990s, the under-11s Saltdean United team will walk out emblazoned with Pinocchio, based in New Road, Brighton.

Two members of staff who met while working at the restaurant, Petru Chiosa and wife Olga, have two sons who play for the team.

Restaurant owner Sue Addis said: "We feel it is not only beneficial for a child's health and social skills to take part in a team sport, it also has an impact on building self-esteem and confidence.

"We hope the boys will not only look fantastic but also continue to play great football for years to come."

Most of the team live in Saltdean and Rottingdean and play in the Sussex FA Youth League East Division with teams from Seaford, Ringmer and Eastbourne.
