A TERRACED mews house has been almost gutted by fire.

Investigators are still on the scene of the blaze in Luther Mews, just off Cobden Road, in Brighton.

One man was taken to hospital after the fire broke out at about 8.30am today.

Five fire crews from across Brighton and Hove were sent to the scene and used hoses and breathing gear to get the blaze in the roof space under control.

It is thought the single-storey house, about 10m by 5m in size, was badly damaged.

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "There was a lot of smoke, a lot of flames. A lot of people saw it and it was quite badly damaged by the fire."

An aerial platform from Worthing was also sent in case crews needed to tackle the fire from above but it was not needed.

Crews spent more than an hour getting the fire under control.

It is not believed to be suspicious but investigations are ongoing.
