A RAPE crisis centre celebrated its 25th birthday.

The Brighton-based Survivors’ Network hosted two events to mark the occasion and promote its Break the Silence campaign last week.

On Friday delegates including MP Caroline Lucas, James Rowland, the city council's commissioner for violence against women, and the office of the Sussex Police and crime commissioner attended a conference in The Basement, Kensington Street, Brighton.

This was followed by a sponsored fire walking event in Jubilee Square with an address by city mayor Lynda Hyde on Saturday, as well as a photo exhibition and music.

The charity supports adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and now provides a services for those who have survived any form of sexual violence including a drop-in and helpline, counselling, and independent advocacy.
