A teenage girl has been convicted of assaulting a police officer during a brawl outside a city bar.

Officers were forced to use pepper spray in a series of fights outside the Saqarra Bar in North Street, Brighton, in the early hours of October 7, last year.

Karen Kaur, 19, of Barcome Road, Brighton, is due to be sentenced later this month.

Simon Brooke, 20, of Tavistock Down, Hollingdean, Brighton, was convicted of insulting and threatening behaviour during the same incident.

Three people were cleared by Brighton magistrates on Monday of any wrongdoing in connection with the incident.

Sitembile John-Addey, 20, of Maresfield Road, Brighton, was found not guilty of assaulting a police officer.

Luke Martin, 22, of Tavistock Down, Hollingdean, Brighton, was cleared of insulting behaviour and resisting arrest.

Andre Davis, 26, of Heron Court, Whitehawk, was acquitted of insulting and threatening behaviour.

Insp Simon Starnes said; "This was an incident fuelled by drink.

"We are working hard with our licensees and other members of the licensing trade in the city to prevent this sort of thing happening again."
