It was unexpectedly sunny last Sunday, so at lunchtime I walked to George Street to browse the shops and the Italian market. I had hoped to sit outside one of the bars or cafes and enjoy a cup of coffee.
The whole experience was ruined by people driving along the road. Pedestrians constantly had to move out of the way and it made the prospect of sitting outside enjoying the sunshine very unattractive.
I noticed that in the main the drivers were not old or disabled, so probably had no real reason to be driving here other than they are allowed to do so.
Quite what the Italian market traders thought, I don't know, but I certainly gave up trying to have a look at their stalls.
Isn't it time Brighton and Hove City Council had another look at the "part time" pedestrianisation of George Street and extended the scheme - at least to sunny Sunday afternoons?
