SIGNALLING problems will now see trains delayed until at least noon today.

Earlier Southern Railway said there would be delays until 10am. Since then it warned passengers to expect problems between Three Bridges, Brighton, Hove and Lewes, and Crowborough and Oxted, until at least noon.

A signalling problem at Balcombe and earlier problems between Hassocks and Preston Park have caused delays of up to 75 minutes.

Southern Railways said passengers can use tickets on Brighton and Hove buses between Preston Park and Shoreham, London Underground between London Victoria and London Bridge stations and the Gatwick Express, Great Western Railway, Southeastern, London Overground and Thameslink on some routes.

Thameslink passengers can use Croydon Tramlink, East Midlands Trains, Southern and London Underground on some routes.

The problems come MPs prepare to meet trains minister Claire Perry today to discuss problems with the Brighton to London mainline.

Caroline Lucas claims promises made to MPs in May last year have not been kept and this time they will seek improvement by July or immediate de-franchising of the services from companies.

A Southern spokesman said: “We know the train service has not been good enough and apologise to passengers. We are looking forward to meeting with the minister, listening to the MPs and explaining what we are doing together to improve the service.”
