FIREFIGHTERS had to smash a window to free a 22-month-old baby who had been locked in a car.

The crew were called to Preston Park Avenue at about 2.30pm today to calls of the baby being locked inside the car.

The baby’s mother had left the keys on the front seat before closing the door, locking her inside.

An officer who attended the scene said: “I think she was crying before we got there, but then as soon as we arrived she became intrigued as to why we were walking around the car.

“We ended up having to break a back window and reach through to grab the keys because the child lock was on.”
