A KIND-HEARTED teenager has taken to YouTube in a crusade to help the homeless.

Kane Hewitt was playing on his Xbox one day after being cooked a sumptuous meal by his mother Azita when it suddenly dawned on him how lucky he was.

The 13-year-old, of Bennett Drive, Hove, said he felt blessed to be in a situation where he wanted for nothing.

He vowed to spend the evening handing out treats and blankets to people sleeping on the streets in Brighton.

The Shoreham College student, who is a budding video blogger, bought chocolate, crisps and fruit with his own pocket money before filming his tour of the city and uploading the footage to his YouTube channel.

He helped five homeless people, recording their stories and the video has been viewed more than 500 times.

Introducing the film with a piano ballad in the background, he urged people to follow in his footsteps as a good samaritan by handing out food and donating to charity.

He said: "I don't want this to seem really cringey but I was sat there and I just felt really lucky and really blessed that I have all this.

"I have shelter, I had a massive dinner and we just throw any waste away. We don't think about people in Africa or those who don't have any food.

"I just thought I really wanted to help someone, it would make me feel better.

"I hope other people will watch this video and give it a big thumbs up or comment and help the homeless too."

He said the people he found on the streets were incredibly grateful for the donations.

One man, originally from Manchester, said he ended up on the streets six years ago after a brain injury.

Another woman, whose partner had just died, became homeless a few weeks ago when she was unable to stay in their home.

His mother, 45, said the family has been overwhelmed with support for Kane's efforts.

She said: "We had loads of phone calls and texts from friends who said how inspired they were by the video and were getting their children to watch it and do the same.

"Making videos and blogs has been his hobby for a while and he's already made a number of them including some about cooking. But he has always wanted to help and has always wanted to give money or food to homeless people we see on the street.

"He kept saying to me he had a really strong feeling that he needed to do something to make their lives a bit better and came up with the idea all on his own. His next plan is to cook pizza and take hot food out to them.

"We are really proud of him."
