IT'S hats off to these kids who are on their way to Oxford or Cambridge.

The 36 high-performing students studying at BHASVIC, in Dyke Road, Hove, have gained prestigious places at the top universities.

BHASVIC students have gained 107 Oxbridge places over the past three years.

This year's tally is the college's record total.

Dillan Saunders, one of our 34 students, said: "Receiving my offer from Cambridge was an incredible moment which I will never forget.

“I am the first person in my family to go to university, so we are all delighted.

“I feel really spurred on to study harder and look forward to a future career in science."

College head teacher Chris Thomson said: “Our Oxbridge students have done outstandingly well this year. I am immensely proud of them and the teachers and staff who work hard to support them.”

Twenty-one students were offered places at Cambridge.

They are: Gordon Buck (Downing College); Oliver Kontkanen (Magdalene); Tom Chalton-Hellyer (Robinson), Juliet Martin (Homerton); Joe Carroll (Pembroke); Shuowang He (King's); Cameron Millar (Emmanuel); Rose Jump (Robinson); Alexandra Davis (Girton); Rebecca Clark (Jesus); Oliver Newnam (Sidney Sussex); Verity Bennett (Girton); Miles Benjamin (Emmanuel); Catherine Wooller (Trinity); Marina Awadalla (Trinity Hall); Katie Francis (Emmanuel); Solomon Knipe (Jesus); Jake Cornwall-Scoones (Clare); Samuel McKee (Robinson); Cyrus Hafezparast (Trinity Hall), and Xinqi Shang (Homerton).

Fifteen students were offered places at Oxford. They are: Billy Whyte (St Hilda’s); Katherine Peters (Magdalen); Mia Boddington (Wadham); Jack Bruford (Worcester); Callum Harvey (St Edmund’s Hall); Morwenna Rickard (Worcester); Samphire Cassidy (Open); Beatrice Waters (Keble); Kara Voullioz (Mansfield); Elliot Gulliver-Needham (Corpus Christi); Felix Pope (Hertford); Jack Hunter (Wadham); Thomas Tutton (St Catherine’s); Lucy Fellingham (Oriel) and Daniel Roberts (Keble).

The figure is up from 34 students in 2014 which had eclipsed the previous record of 25 set in 2011.

Verity Bennett, who has been offered a place to study maths at Cambridge, said: "Everyone at BHASVIC is focused and supportive. If you've got a problem there is always someone willing to help you."
