WE are on the hunt for the best mother in Sussex in a brand new competition to celebrate the county’s most amazing mum.

We are never too old to need our mothers, and The Argus has teamed up with Café Rouge to make sure Mothers’ Day is a special one.

Whether it’s being on the other end of the phone to talk through life’s problems or giving you a good dressing down after a moment of madness, mums will never stop parenting and their children will never stop needing their love.

The Argus is asking readers to send in their nominations to be in with the chance of winning a special prize.

Group editor Mike Gilson said: “A mother’s work is never done, but for one day – maybe – we’d like to change that.

“There are so many inspirational mum’s out there and we really want to hear from you, their children, as to how they’ve sculpted your life, inspired you or just plain been there for you.

“That’s what mums are for, and we’re here to celebrate that.”

Whether your mother does the best Sunday Roast in the world, or is always there to listen to your problems, we want to here from you.

One mother who deserves plenty of credit is Jemma Peacock

In November, The Argus recognised her as Parent of the Year at the Community Star Awards held at the Theatre Royal.

Even as she was battling terminal illness Jemma Peacock managed to secure a Parliamentary debate after 100,000 people backed her campaign for cancer drug funding.

The 32-year-old from Storrington wants nothing more than to see her two children grow up after she was diagnosed with an incurable gastrointestinal stromal tumour, a rare form of cancer found in the digestive system.

Her inspirational efforts were picked up nationally as celebrities such as Russell Brand, Joan Collins, Boy George and Zoe Ball all backed her campaign.

She said: “Winning means the world. My children mean the world to me and are my inspiration, my strength, all my fight comes from them and they keep me going.

“I reached a really dark point a year ago and I can say if it was not for my children I would not be here today.”

The winner of Sussex’s Best Mum will win a meal at Café Rouge and will have their story told in the paper.
