A DANCE mad couple travelled nearly 700 miles from their home in Norway just to get a lesson with a jive teacher.

Monika Ravik and Kjelle Andresen were first introduced to jive dance instructor Colin Tenn when they were contemplating moving to Brighton in 2014.

But while the move never came off, the couple were so taken with Colin that they purchased his jive instructional DVD.

After spending the past two years dancing to his video lessons, for Monica’s 50th birthday the couple decided to pay him a visit.

They travelled 692 miles from their home in Porsgrunn, Norway, to Brighton at the weekend.

The couple then enjoyed a special lesson before a dance party at The Station pub, in Goldstone Villas, Hove.

The 54-year-old dance instructor, who has been teaching for two decades, said this is definitely the furthest anyone has travelled for a lesson.

He said he initially did not believe they would make the journey - thinking someone might be playing a trick.

He said: “I get lots of spam emails saying we have people who want to come over, but what they are really after is credit card details.

“But after I got an email wanting me to go to Canada in 2010 and I was flown out there all expenses paid I thought I better start taking this more seriously."

He added: “Since we have done the DVD it has just gone all over the world: Australia, Mexico, Brazil, America – it just started out as a bit of fun but I have now taught around 15,000 people.”

Colin teaches 1940s and 50s style jive dancing.

A former engineer, he became a dance teacher full time after being made redundant from British Aerospace.

The Norwegian couple discovered Colin when Monika was considering spending six months in Brighton studying for a PhD in nursing.

IT programmer, Kjelle, 53, said he wanted to find them something to do and stumbled across Colin's group, Brighton Jive.

Monika said: “We have been dancing for the last nine years and Colin is similar to our style and has a lot of funny moves.

“We decided as it was my birthday we thought it would be a good idea to come over for lessons as we have been using his DVD for so long.”
