ONE of Sussex's busiest roads was closed for about five hours after a crash involving two lorries.

The A23 northbound carriageway, at Albourne, was closed following a collision just after 10am this morning involving the two vehicles.

The road remained shut for about five hours while diversions were put in place for recovery work to be carried out on the vehicles and minor injuries were reported.

At least three fire engines, three ambulances and about a dozen police vehicles are at the scene of the accident which involved two heavy goods vehicles.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "The A23 is now fully reopen following an collision between two Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) on the northbound carriageway near Hickstead at about 10am.

"Minor injuries were reported.

"The diversions at Albourne have been removed.

"We'd like to thank everyone for their patience while the road was closed."
