AN acting group is celebrating after a second member won a place on to a prestigious summer school course.

Mika Thompson, 17, who attends Brighton-based Drama Queens is one of 500 students around the country to be given a chance to attend the two week event run by the National Youth Theatre (NYT) this August.

She was among thousands of youngsters to audition.

Completing the course will also enable Mika to audition for any future NYT performances.

Mika follows in the footsteps of fellow Drama Queens member Bessie Williams, 17, who won a place at the summer school in 2014.

Drama Queens has been in the city for 10 years and run Sally Orr and Debbie Spellman.

Ms Orr said: “We are immensely proud of both Mika and Bessie .

“Getting into the National Youth a Theatre is a huge achievement and very difficult.

“Every year from thousands of auditions only a small percentage of young people get through to the summer course so it's highly competitive.

"They have worked incredibly hard.”
