THE world’s biggest cheese board is just one of the highlights at this weekend’s food festival.

The world record is being attempted by David Deaves of Hove’s La Cave à Fromage – previously named the third best cheese chop in the world.

The mega platter is set to feature more than 100 cheeses from the UK and across Europe, representing every style under the sun.

A clutch of VIP guests will enjoy an exclusive tasting and masterclass with David on Sunday morning along with a complimentary glass of Moët & Chandon Imperial champagne - before it the board is opened up to the public to sample.

The event is part of a series of free events being staged by the not-for-profit Brighton and Hove Food and Drink Festival on Hove Lawns over the weekend, which includes the Sussex and the World Market, Live Food Shows, Taste the World area, Beach BBQ Cook Off, the Children’s Food Festival.

David Deaves said: “I did something similar in London where we did a board with about 80 cheeses, and this time we’re looking at about 100.

“We’ve had a terrific response and the last time I looked at the Facebook page there was about 1,300 people saying they would come.

"If they all show up at the same time it could all be over in an hour.

“We have a couple of stewards to manage the crowds, so they might have to send people away and come back later if its gets too frenzied.

“La Cave is really lucky to have such a loyal following in Brighton and Hove and further afield, so I think it’s going to be a really great event."

Other highlights of the weekend include a Taste of Guernsey lunch, on Monday at Market.

The lunch will be packed with produce from the Channel Islands including its famous dairy and cheese, seafood and hand crafted gins and liqueurs.

Channel Island chef of the year Simon Mckenzie of the 5 star Old Government House hotel will be at the helm along with Ross Gledhill from White Rock Brewery and Luke Wheadon from Bella Luce hotel.

On Sunday is the Visit Sweden Fika tea dance in the festival marquee on Hove Lawns

Fika is Sweden’s traditional coffee and cake socialising, and the festival has worked with friends at Visit Sweden and Brighton’s Metrodeco and Nordic Coffee Collective on the authentic showcase.

There will be free dance lessons from Swing Sussex throughout the day, plus coffee and tea cocktails created by Blackdown Artisan Spirits and Metrodeco.

The English Wine Festival runs across Sunday and Monday, also in the festival marquee on Hove Lawns.

It is the UK’s biggest ever English wine festival featuring around 40 producers from Sussex, Kent and Hampshire.

Hosted by Butlers Wine Cellar and English Wine Producers, the marquee will feature a wine installation created by festival sponsors Yelo Architects.

Entry is free, with the chance to try and buy by the glass or bottle.
