COMEDIAN and political activist Eddie Izzard will visit the University of Sussex in a last ditch attempt to persuade voters to remain in the EU on the eve of the referendum.

The 54-year-old will appear tomorrow (WEDS) on what is the last stop on his nationwide Stand Up For Europe tour, taking in 31 UK cities in 31 days.

Eddie Izzard describes himself as “proud to be a British European” and has said he strongly believes that Britain should fight for its right to remain in Europe.

His Stand Up For Europe campaign has two simple aims: to encourage people to exercise their democratic rights, and to persuade them to vote remain in the referendum on June 23.

The event takes place in the 350-seater Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts on the university’s campus at Falmer from 12.30pm to 1.30pm on June 22.

He will speak for around half an hour and then take questions from the audience.

Laura McDermott, creative director of the Attenborough Centre, said: “We’re excited that Eddie chose to bring his national tour to University of Sussex less than 24 hours before ballots open.

“Eddie is a fantastic performer and he is passionate about the things he believes in. I find him very inspiring. I encourage everyone to come along to this free public event to listen, question and challenge him - he’d expect nothing less.”

The star of films such as Ocean's Twelve, Valkyrie and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, he has been a key figure for the remain campaign over the last few weeks.

He has made numerous TV appearances including on Question Time where he clashed with UKIP's Nigel Farage.

The Labour supporter spent part of his childhood in Bexhill and went to St Bede's Prep School and then Eastbourne College.
