PUNCHES were thrown and angry exchanges were made as tempers flared on a packed train.

Officers from the British Transport Police were alerted and were called to platform 13 to cool the situation.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said officers were called to the platform to a man acting violently towards other passengers at 11.30am.
He said a 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with common assault on two people.
A Southern Railway spokesman said: "We can confirm that an incident occurred on the 11.20 Victoria to Brighton service when passengers were boarding at Clapham Junction.
"Police were called to the incident and dealt with those concerned.
"Unfortunately, the train was more crowded than usual because it was made up of four carriages instead of the usual eight.
This was because of carriages being out of position following disruption, leading to four of the carriages not being available for this service.
"We apologise for the crowding experienced on this train."
