BRIGHTON'S newest tourist attraction will stay closed tomorrow after a day spent checking it over.

The British Airways i360 was closed today for checks after it got stuck twice in three days with passengers on board.

Passengers on the British Airways i360 were left stranded in mid-air for two hours on Thursday evening and one-hour yesterday (Sunday) due to technical faults.

A spokesperson said earlier today: "British Airways i360 will close today while specialist technicians conduct further checks on site.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Customers who have booked tickets for flights today will be offered alternative visits or refunds.”

A further statement this afternoon continued: "British Airways i360 will remain closed tomorrow [September 13] while checks continue.

"We advise customers to visit our website and social media channels for updates. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will continue to contact customers who have already made bookings to offer them the chance to rebook or claim a refund."

The pod that takes people up the 162m viewing tower became stuck on Thursday when the control system defaulted to safe mode and applied the brakes.

They have not revealed the cause of Sunday's problem and said today that chief executive Eleanor Harris was not available for interview.
