A CAR which drove onto the rail tracks at a level crossing is causing trains delays of three hours.

Network Rail and emergencies services including British Transport Police are attending the incident.

BTP were called at 17.08 to reports that a car had driven onto the Yapton level crossing near Bognor and then turned off the road to drive onto the train tracks.

Four units resonded to the call and a 69 year old is currently helping police with their inquiries.

There have not been any injuries reported.

One passenger notified The Argus at 6pm that his train had been stationary for more than an hour.  He said that the driver announced the driver was at that location because his satnav had told him to proceed.

A Network Rail spokesman said: "Our engineers and police are on site making the area safe and removing the car.

"The plan is to have trains running again by 20:00. We apologise for the disruption caused to passengers and advice anyone traveling in the area to check before they travel this evening."
