SLIMMING WORLD dieters have been told to allow for four extra Syns to what were believed to be low-fat sausages.

Porky Lights bangers - which had sparked a nationwide shortage as supermarkets struggle to keep up with overwhelming demand - are now not believed to be as healthy as originally thought.

They were originally categorised by Slimming World as having just ½ syn points.

But statement released on Social Media today suggest dieters should allow more Syn points for each sausage.

The statement posted said: "The Food Co-ordination team at Slimming World Head Office has done some analysis on Porky Lights sausages, after becoming a little concerned about their fatty (albeit delicious!) texture.

"The analysis showed that the sausages were indeed much higher in fat than the nutrition panel indicated - and this does affect their Syn value significantly.

"We've been in touch with Porky Lights to let them know our findings and they're looking into it as we speak.

"To help protect your weight loss until accurate nutritional information to use as a base from our calculations, the sausages have been temporarily removed from Syns Online, the App and Weight Loss Planner's Syns search and on the Syns Hotline.

"In the meantime, if you have a pack of Porky Lights in your fridge/freezer, we'd recommend you count 41/2 Syns per sausage.

"We'll be in touch with more news - through your Consultant - once we have it."

Allison Brentnall, Head of Food at Slimming World, said: "We sent a batch of the Porky Lights sausages away for nutritional analysis as we felt concerned about the fatty texture.

"This is something we do routinely with products that we worry may affect our members’ weight losses.

"The analysis of this batch suggests that the sausages are indeed much higher in fat than the nutritional information on the product’s packaging had indicated – and this would affect their Syn value significantly.

"We’ve let Porky Lights know about our findings and, in order to protect our members’ weight losses, which is always our priority, we have temporarily removed the sausages from our Syns database."
