Third-placed Huddersfield closed to within six points, with a game in hand over the top two, by beating Brentford 1-0 at Griffin Park.

Tom Cairney followed up his late equaliser for Fulham against Leeds at Craven Cottage on Tuesday by giving them an early lead at Newcastle.

Wonder kid Ryan Sessegnon, 16, struck twice early in the second half for the play-off chasing Londoners.

Substitute Daryl Murphy pulled a goal back for Newcastle.

Former Albion loan signing Rajiv van La Parra was on target in the first half for Huddersfield at Brentford.

Luke Ayling is out of Albion's visit to Elland Road for fourth-placed Leeds next Saturday (5.30pm).

The right-back collected his tenth caution of the campaign in the first half of the 0-0 home draw against QPR, on the weekend of the cut-off.

Ayling is now suspended for two games for Leeds, who are 11 points adrift of Albion.

Huddersfield will close to within three points of the Seagulls and Newcastle if they win at Bristol City next Friday night (7.45pm).

Newcastle are at Birmingham on Saturday (3pm).
