DOZENS of people slept on the streets in support of rough sleepers.
The YMCA Sleepout was held to raise awareness of the plight of homeless people and funds for the charity’s hostels.
Fifty seven people took part in Brighton and Hove and another 29 in Horsham.
The Bishop of Chichester Dr Martin Warner and Archdeacon of Brighton and Lewes Rev Martin Lloyd Williams took part in the event in Hove.
Bishop Martin, pictured, said: “I am no hero.
“One night under cardboard in no way compares with the despair of those who see homelessness as their only option.
“But I hope that one night will help to raise a wider awareness of the issue and produce a wider, serious and effective response.”
Bob Wright, 84, was the oldest person to take part and Holly Luscombe, 16, the youngest.
Bob said: “These youngsters just need a helping hand and that’s something I feel I can do.”
