FANS and players celebrated together last night after Brighton and Hove Albion FC secured promotion to the Premier League.

Members of the team left celebrations at the Amex and caught the train from Falmer to Brighton Station along with cheering fans.

Sam Baldock, Jamie Murphy, Jiri Skalak and Oliver Norwood were carried around on the shoulders of supporters when they arrived in the city centre.

Skalak was carried as a large party headed down Queen's Road before the players left celebrating fans at the clock tower according to witnesses.

Norwood also relished the opportunity to join fans to celebrate as he crowd-surfed on the train after it left Falmer Station.

Martin Wesley, 22, an Albion fan and student from Worthing, said: “I arrived at Brighton Station to see some of the players being paraded on fan’s shoulders and bouncing up and down to the sound of them singing and chanting.

“It was great to see the barrier that usually separates fans and players being broken down and everyone celebrating the club’s promotion together.”

Another group of players including David Stockdale, Steve Sidwell and Anthony Knockaert and others also headed into Brighton on a later train to avoid the initial waves of supporters.

Albion’s 2-1 win against Wigan Athletic on Monday brought a 34-year exile away from England’s top tier to an end and the team are finally being promoted back up to the Premier League.

Goals from Glenn Murray and Solly March at the AMEX Stadium proved to be crucial, as they now look to win the Sky Bet Championship.
