TODAY we bring together a series of photographs from the 1970s, 80s and 90s, of the brave men and women of East and West Sussex Fire Services at work.
In our main photograph, taken in 1970, it takes two men to hold and control the fire hose to direct the powerful jet of water to the location of the flames.
The blaze at Johnson Brothers in Western Road, Brighton, has clearly ravaged the entire building and smoke can be seen pouring out of the windows on the first floor and those above.
We can only hope that everyone was evacuated from the building, which was on the corner with Marlborough Street, before the inferno took hold.
In the foreground of the picture, a group of onlookers is huddled looking at the damage to the property.
Is it possible they were employees of the business?
Perhaps you were among them. If so, please tell us at timeout@theargus.co.uk.
Another dramatic blaze broke out at The Eclipse pub in Montgomery Street, Hove, in 1992.
Let us know if you recall it.
Our pictures show how fire tenders have changed over the years from the elderly one above to those of the Eighties and Nineties.
We are not sure what is happening in the interesting picture of a fire engine being deployed at Duke’s Mound in Kemp Town.
The ladder is being extended out beyond the seafront wall so that firemen can look down, but on to what we do not know.
