A RECORD number of students from Lewes Old Grammar School will be going for gold this summer as they line up in next month’s ISA National Athletics finals as part of the London South team.

Twenty-five young sportsmen and women from Years 7 to 10 qualified for a place at Birmingham’s leading athletics venue, the Alexander Stadium, which is among the front runners to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The ISA regional trials, held at Norman’s Park in Bromley last week, saw powerful performances from all 36 LOGS competitors with decisive victories for Chloe Kornevall in the 800m and Piper Bull in the shot put. By the end of the day, LOGS’ tally had increased to 13 individual 1st places and two relay wins.

“It was a great achievement all round,” said teacher Hannah Thorpe. “The students really supported and encouraged one another. “
