TRAVELLERS have set up camp on a popular recreation ground.

Caravans were seen on Waterhall Playing Fields on the outskirts of Brighton yesterday.

Brighton and Hove City Council said: “We have visited the sites with the police to carry out health and welfare checks and conduct a community impact assessment.

“The group has been informed that they are trespassing on council-owned land and have to leave. All legal options are being considered.”

Caravans were also seen on Patcham Place recreation ground in London Road, Brighton, as well as the old Dairy Crest site in Sompting Road, Worthing.

It comes after travellers broke into a school’s playing field on Tuesday.
