THRILL seekers will be able to slide down a giant waterslide in a public park – and raise money for disabled children.

Amaze, a Brighton charity which supports families with disabled youngsters, is to offer 1,000 people the chance to ride the 100m slide set up in the city’s Wild Park.

It will start at the steep top and level out along the length of the main park.

The fun will be for one day only, on Saturday, July 15.

Nicky Bagilhole, fundraising manager for Amaze, said: “The atmosphere will be great and we have already sold about a quarter of our tickets.

“The slide and other activities will offer a fun day out to families and guests of all ages and we look forward to being joined by the newly elected mayor of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Mo Marsh.

“The logistics of bringing such a big slide to the park has been expensive and challenging but we are ready for the event and hope it will be something we can hold annually.

“To do that we need to keep it interesting and have considered using an even bigger slide in future if this event is a success.

“It is the first time a slide of this sort has been brought to the city that people have been allowed to book tickets for on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Guests will get to go down the slide on inflatable surfboards.”

On the day, there will be a local radio station playing music, a bouncy castle, other entertainment for younger children and the fire service will be taking along a fire engine.

The slide is provided and run by a specialist company and is fully insured.

Ms Bagilhole said: “Lots of people are booking for their children but it will be great to see whole families in attendance and adults who fancy a bit of fun.

“The council and J’s Café and Deli are both showing their support for Amaze and our event.”

Wild Park is easily accessible from central Brighton by foot, bus, bike or car and there will be plenty of additional free parking on the day.

Tickets are £12 per slide, which includes a minimum donation of £5 to the charity, plus a booking fee of 80p.

Riders of all ages can book in hourly slots from 10am to 6pm and Amaze is expecting a high demand for tickets.

You can also win tickets or extra tickets by liking and sharing the post about the slide on the Amaze Facebook page.
