A LIFELONG Albion fan used one of the natural wonders of the world to celebrate their promotion to the Premier League.

David Foster, from Seaford, got the opportunity to choose the lighting colours at Niagara Falls and opted for the blue and white of the Seagulls.

David was on holiday in Canada celebrating his 60th birthday with his wife Caley and got the chance to change the lights as part of their holiday package.

He said: “I wanted to be somewhere memorable for my 60th, so we decided on Canada and visited Niagara Falls while we were there.

“When I saw the package that meant you could choose the light colours for the falls, my immediate thought process was that I wanted to do it in the Albion colours to honour the club and all the players.”

The lighting took place on the evening of his birthday on May 8 and David received a certificate in memory of his special day.

Albion’s blue and white projected on to the falls for 20 minutes.

David is a season ticket holder in the West Stand Lower at the Amex and has been going to matches since the late 1970s.

He said: “It was quite an emotional feeling when I saw the colours lighting up the falls.

“It was one of those moments that stays with you for the rest of your life. I will never forget what I did on my 60th birthday – it was so special.”

David also enjoyed a dinner at a restaurant on the site of the falls. This was part of the Light up the Falls dinner package he booked.

He spent three nights at Niagara Falls and four nights in Toronto during his holiday with Caley, and they also went on a boat ride up the falls.

Speaking about the moment, David said: “We went up the illumination tower where all the lights that shine on the falls are controlled.

“We were greeted by the operator of the lights and after hearing about and seeing the history of how the lights have developed, I was then allowed to programme the lights myself.

“I wanted to do something unique and original to celebrate the promotion. Thousands of people from a whole range of countries will have seen this.”

Caley is not a die-hard football fan like David, but she knows how much the club means to him.

He said: “My wife isn’t the biggest football fan but because of me she is an Albion supporter and she thought the lighting was brilliant.

“She knows how much Albion mean to me and how special it was for me to be able to do this.”

David’s pictures of the falls in Albion’s colour will feature in match programmes next season.
