A MAN has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after being stabbed in the city centre. 

Around 1.40am paramedics raced to Old Steine, Brighton, on Saturday to respond to a man in his 20s who had been stabbed. 

The man was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in a serious condition.

Police also attended. 

A doorman, who was working on Saturday night, said: "We heard it it all over the radio. It was absolutely shambolic. 

"A young man got stabbed in the back. The people involved we could have detained but we were told to leave them alone."

Sussex Police have declined to comment.
