A council has voted not to support a countywide campaign to save hospital services.
Hastings Borough Council's cabinet has backed plans to strip Eastbourne District General Hospital (DGH) of its maternity unit in favour of the Conquest Hospital in St Leonards.
Councillors Peter Pragnell, Peter Finch, Matthew Lock, Godfrey Daniel and Phil Scott voted in favour of saving facilities at Conquest Hospital because the area was more deprived and had worse transport links than Eastbourne.
Coun Daniel said: "We have accepted the status quo is going to change and we want what is best for Hastings."
But Liz Walke, who runs the Save the DGH campaign in Eastbourne, said: "All councillors who voted for our maternity unit to be closed should resign, as they have not listened to their constituents' view that both hospitals should remain intact."
