A FAULTY tumble dryer being recalled by its manufacturer may have caused a house fire.
Worthing Fire Station crew were called out to a house in Goring at 7pm on Sunday night.
Fortunately residents and their pets heard a smoke alarm and left the building although the blaze did damage a first floor room before firefighters could intervene.
Firefighters said investigation of the fire scene indicated that the tumble dryer is currently subject to a product recall.
Hotpoint, Indesit, Creda, Swan and Proline brand condensor and vented tumble dryers manufactured between April 2004 and September 2015 are considered a fire risk because of fluff coming into contact with heating elements.
Watch commander Darren Wickings said: “Thankfully a working smoke alarm alerted the owners almost immediately to the fire and they were able to escape quickly, along with their pets. Please ensure your smoke alarm is working.”
