ATHLETES with a range of disabilities showed off their skills in the sixth annual Seahaven Para Games at Downs Leisure Centre in Seaford.

Competitors from throughout East Sussex took part.

The even was fully accessible to everyone thanks to a door-to-door minibus service provided by Community Transport for the Lewes Area.

It was sponsored by Seaford Rotary Club and Sussex Housing Trust for the Elderly.

The 23 competitors took part in an action-packed day which provided a platform for everyone to demonstrate their sporting expertise.

Challenging activities included new age curling, table tennis, boccia, table cricket, balloon volleyball, a chair-based exercise class and a sound tennis demonstration and the highly anticipated – and competitive - annual wheelchair slalom.

Duncan Kerr, chief executive office of host Wave Leisure, welcomed everyone to the games and wished all the competitors good luck.

He said: “The annual Seahaven Para Games really provide the perfect stage for competitors to exhibit their sporting skills.

“It also demonstrates the energy, strength and benefits that sport and physical activity can bring to everyone.

“The Wave Team is proud to be able to host and deliver the Seahaven Para Games for a sixth year.

“The event is the highlight of our year.

“The Seahaven Para Games continue to underpin our commitment to promoting good health and active lifestyles, bringing inclusive participation and enjoyable activities to all our community.”

Mike Roper, president of the Rotary Club of Seaford, said: “We were very happy that the 2017 Seahaven Para Games were, again, able to take place with the support of the Rotary Club.

“It is important to us to continue to offer our local community the chance to participate in a fantastic range of activities and have the opportunity to make new friends.”

The 2017 games ended with the highly spirited annual wheelchair slalom.

Bill Hopkins, from Webb House, sped around the course and crossed the finish line first.
