NEW ticket machines at a railway station are causing a furore among passengers.

Machines in railway stations across the Southern network have been updated, however the new systems do not allow users to buy off-peak tickets in advance.

Instead, off-peak tickets are released for sale just ten minutes before the first off-peak train is set to depart – causing queues at the machines and overpayment of tickets.

A Southern Railway spokesman said: “We are working hard with our supplier to fix this teething problem as quickly as possible.”
