A BOY racer who led police on a high-speed chase has been spared jail.

Mustafijur Rahman, 19, of Essex Street, Brighton, pleaded guilty to driving without a licence, driving while disqualified and without insurance, failing to stop and breaching his licence at Brighton Magistrates Court.

He was sentenced to 18 weeks suspended for two years for the pursuit through Brighton on August 25.

The court heard police noticed Rahman because of his babyface and he was asked to pull over in Lewes Road but he failed to stop.

Police then followed the speeding car down Hartington Road and drove at 40mph just to keep up with it, but lost sight of Rahman in Elm Grove.

The teen and another man dumped the car in Carlyle Street before they were detained.

In mitigation, Andy Horsman, said: “He accepts he was driving and shouldn’t be. It was down to his immaturity and stupidity.”

He was previously convicted of driving without a licence, insurance and failing to stop.

Chairwoman of the bench Shirley Vening spared the teenager jail.

He was sentenced to 18 weeks suspended for two years, 200 hours unpaid community work and disqualified for 36 months.
